On April 13, the play “The Cry of the Dogs” by Yiannis Papazoglou, presented by the Actina Theater with the direction of Athena Tsiknias and visual effects by Kostis Emmanouilidis, premieres, a play that is staged for the first time in Greece.
Couple isolated in the countryside. That prose writer. In creative crisis. Once upon a time. Along the way, he commercialized his writing. He became a best-selling author of crime novels. She literary critic. Often bitter and aggressive. Even against him. The marriage has been shaken. The terrace turns into a ring. Face-off. The main reason is the daughter’s escape. As a reaction to their micro-urbanization.
“It is a text of realism, special, strong, with modern writing, many readings and with several hyperrealistic elements. The issues that the author touches on, current issues that plague us such as the wave of refugees, wars raging around us and within us, an alienated society, people struggling with their fears, their guilt, to hold on to something, relationships that collapsing, collapsing society, a dystopian environment, power that catalyzes everything human that is born, memories that feed back into the present and tangle together, create the springboard for a show that speaks directly to today’s viewer. By building an interpretive universe consisting of three characters who each carry their own culture, as well as a stage environment using modern media, visual effects, embracing it musically, we created a multidimensional performance that takes us from the realistic to the surreal and vice versa, as well as on a path towards our inner world, like our heroes”, says Athena Tsiknia in her note.
The roles are performed by Panagiotis Georgoulas, Anna Papanikolaou and Athena Tsiknia. The show will be performed all weekends of April 13-14, 20-21, 27-28 as well as the first three days of May after Easter 10-12 May, starting at 9pm.
