Sweden must invest more in its military and civilian infrastructure, such as its road and rail networks, to meet NATO requirements for west-east transport capabilities.

As Day.Az reports with reference to TASS, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated this in an interview with Sveriges Radio.

“More investment is needed in infrastructure, both military and civilian, to transport cargo. This applies to the whole of Scandinavia, since in the current environment it can be considered as one operational entity,” he said.

The NATO head also noted the need for further development of the Swedish healthcare system.

“Sweden is a country with a well-developed health care system. However, a country with a well-developed health care system can increase its capacity and improve its ability to interact in a crisis situation,” he said.

According to Stoltenberg, coordination, information and overall preparedness for a crisis are also of great importance.

According to NATO planning, in the event of a military conflict in the Baltic region, Sweden should treat the wounded in medical facilities located in the Lake Mälaren valley and on the east coast.
