London: UK appoints first woman High Commissioner to India Lindy Cameron has been appointed as the High Commissioner. Lindy was the CEO of the UK National Cyber Security Centre.
The British High Commission informed about the appointment of Lindy Cameron. Lindy replaces Alex Ellis. The British High Commission has announced that Alex will be given a new diplomatic role. The British High Commission also stated that Lindy Cameron will take over in April.
India appointed a woman High Commissioner to the UK 70 years ago. India appointed Vijayalakshmi Pandit as High Commissioner in 1954. She remained in the position till 1961.
A graduate of Oxford University, Lindy Cameron has also served in Iraq and Afghanistan. She also served in the UK’s Department for International Development. For the past several years, she has been holding important responsibilities in cities like Washington, Beijing, Paris, Tokyo and Berlin.
Cameron will become the High Commissioner at a time when the relationship between India and the UK is getting stronger. India is the UK’s 12th trading partner. Efforts have also been made to forge a free trade agreement between the two countries. There is cooperation between the two countries in the field of defence.
