Latvia beat Moldova away with a score of 1:0 (0:0).

The only goal in the game was scored in the 63rd minute, when Karline Mikson made a shot from a sharp angle in the direction of the opponent’s goal and hit Moldovan player Nadezhda Kolesnichenko, from which the ball went into the home team’s goal.

In the first match of the qualification cycle, the Latvian national team lost to North Macedonia 3-4 at home on Friday, while Moldova lost 0-2 to Slovenia away.

The Latvian national team plays the qualification tournament in a two-round competition in the C league in one group with North Macedonia, Moldova and Slovenia.

Latvians also played with Moldova in the Nations League last year, winning 5-0 at home, but drawing 3-3 away.

The winners of the first two places in each subgroup of the A League will enter the final tournament, which will take place in Switzerland. The fate of the remaining seven tickets will be decided in two “play-off” rounds, which will take place from October to December. The winners of the five subgroups and the three best runners-up will qualify for the “play-off” stage of the C League.

In addition, the teams of the C League are fighting for the chance to be promoted to the B League for the next UEFA Nations League and qualification cycle. The winner of each sub-group of the C League will get such a promotion.

The qualification tournament is organized according to the performance of the teams in the UEFA Nations League tournament, with the participants being divided into A, B and C leagues. In its debut season of the UEFA Nations League, the Latvian national team in the C League went to the playoffs for promotion to a higher league, however, they recognized the superiority of Slovakia and remained in the C League.

Roman Kvačov is assisted by coaches Kirils Buravtsevs and Anna Poniatovska, as well as goalkeeping coach Yevgenys Belovs.
