THE Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Security, Vassilis Spanakis, inaugurated on Wednesday, 10/4, the Motorcycle Exhibition at METROPOLITAN Expo and, during his speech at the 1st Conference “Sustainable Ride, Sustainable and Safe Mobility: Data and Perspectives”, in the framework of the Report, he noted that a sustainable urban transport system is a key factor in reducing pollution and greenhouse emissions, improving safety, drastically limiting noise pollution, saving energy and its efficient use, modernizing the planning of the urban environment for the benefit of the individual citizen and society in general.
Among others, Mr. Spinach, also emphasized that sustainable urban mobility emerges as a unique tool for the qualitative improvement of our movements and from this context we could never include or face in isolation the cycle of transport that takes place either during the exercise of work or during access to work. “That is why the qualitative upgrading of working conditions and the protection of the health and safety of workers are top government priorities,” he underlined.
“In the field of labor relations, in particular,” added the deputy minister, “sustainability and safe mobility are fundamental factors in our strategy. As I have repeatedly stated, in the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, as far as my responsibilities are concerned, our ultimate goal is to establish a new culture in health and safety in the workplace, in the ways and in the institutional framework for the protection of workers in businesses and, in particular, those that require fast, but at the same time, safe movement”.
It is recalled that, in this context, last summer, two ministerial decisions were issued for the protection of motorcycle delivery workers, which provided for a) the mandatory suspension of work during the hot season and b) the minimum clothing equipment.
