A big celebration for the birthday of the great Danish fairy tale writer Hans Christian Andersen was planned by the Zosimaia Public Central Historical Library of Ioannina, on the occasion of World Children’s Book Day.

With a variety of actions, he conveyed the message of this year’s World Children’s Book Day “Cross the seas with the wings of imagination!”, which was chosen by the National Department of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) of Japan.
The “Library of Knowledge and Emotions” of the Zosima Public Central Historical Library of Ioannina created this year’s message with sound, image and sign language, turning the information into an audio-visual stimulus. It is available to the public on the Living Library YouTube channel (https://youtu.be/URvrmEwMqGs)
To celebrate this year’s World Children’s Book Day, the educational activities and events department of the Living Library designed an educational program based on the message of the Japan department and the book “The gardener of fairy tales” by Claudio Gobbetti, illustrated by Diyana Nikolova of the editions Giapiris – Pyramid.
“Along with the children, we heard and saw this year’s message, talked about sign language and discussed the reading of books by all people. We read the book “The gardener of fairy tales” and discussed about the stories, how they are born, how they are planted and where they take us. On the occasion of the pictures in the book, we met the typewriter, planted stories, collected leaves, bound books and let them travel. Some reached the Living Library. We played a game of hidden treasure, where we hid various items in places in the library. The children gathered the evidence, with the help of a map, and made oral stories that were told. On the occasion of the origami figures of the fairy tale and Japan, the children created their own origami books, which they illustrated and hung on the Zosimaia tree. They made origami animals to take with them and make their own stories”, states a press release of the Zosimaia Public Central Historical Library of Ioannina, in which thanks are expressed to the 1st Experimental Primary School of Ioannina, the 2nd Experimental Primary School of Ioannina and the Kindergarten “The Tale of the Butterfly”, which were found in the Zosimaia Library and implemented the actions, as well as the 8th Kindergarten of Ioannina and the 2nd Kindergarten of Amarousi Attica for the online implementation of the program to celebrate World Children’s Book Day 2024.
