The Lithuanian government supported the initiative of the Ministry of Culture to extend the ban imposed last year on the rebroadcasting of Russian and Belarusian TV channels and radio stations.
As reported by the LRT publication, now this ban is proposed to be extended until the National Security Strategy of Lithuania considers Russia and Belarus as dangerous and threatening for Lithuania.
The ban introduced last year expires this year in October. This is provided for by the Law of Lithuania on Public Information.
Now the initiative of the government must be supported by the Parliament of Lithuania.
At the same time, the Seimas of Lithuania began discussing the possibility of introducing new restrictions for citizens of Belarus who have a residence permit on Lithuanian territory. In particular, the parliamentary committee of national defense proposed to limit the number of trips to the homeland for such Belarusians – up to once a year.
In September 2023, the Lithuanian Television and Radio Commission (LRTK) approved a decision to block 53 IP addresses through which the main Russian propaganda channels banned in Lithuania continued to be broadcast.
