The construction projects of the regional axis at Thessalonikiknown as Flyoverafter appeals from residents of the area.
The temporary stoppage of the works was done by order of the president of the 5th Department Council of State and is valid until a decision is issued on their application for suspension (insurance measures) submitted by residents to the SC. The application is set to be heard on April 17.
The appeals that led to a temporary suspension of the works have been filed by residents, the Association of Residents of Constantinopouli, the Association for the Protection of Sheikh Sou and the Association of Runners of Thessaloniki.
The temporary order banning the works on an emblematic project of Thessaloniki was given by the president of the 5th Department of the Council of State, Margarita Gortolidou.
In their applications, the agencies underline that the projects will cause irreparable damage to Sheikh Sou, due to the drilling on the banks of the Malakopi stream, with the consequent destruction of the ecosystem and the creation of flood conditions, in case of intense weather events.
The regional axis of Thessaloniki is not the first nor the last project to be temporarily stopped by a court decision, as the Council of State followed a similar practice in the past in many projects, receiving intense criticism.
