A few weeks ago, the Chilean singer, Nicole was in Mexico. In addition to talking about the music industry at FIMPRO Guadalajara, she also took advantage of his visit to record new music and hang out with Mexican colleagues.

Likewise, his career that has spanned just over three decades has brought him several lessons which he shared with the public. And it is that Nicole He began his career when he was just 12 years old.

“I have been lucky enough to take a tour, to observe and experience the types of industry, the era without social networks, that of record labels selling physical records, the type of promotion that is different today.

“Today you can have professional equipment at home and promote on social networks. That leads to a type of work, in my case I have carried out half of my career independently. “It has been interesting to be able to understand how to work as a team and how to delegate and make others grow,” she shared in an interview with 24 HOURS.

Protected by her parents, the Santiago native mentioned that if she had not studied music, cinema was the other option.

“I always think that if I had studied I would have done another profession, I started at the age of 12 when I left school. I started studying music but I think I would have studied film, currently I have complemented it in my video clips, visuals and in my albums

Continuing with his childhood memories, Nicole He has been part of major labels and has been independent and he owes the success of his career to communication.

“First it was difficult to communicate in an adult world and then I quickly understood that I had to know how to communicate and be very clear about what you wanted to say. At first the adults had a hard time listening to me. In that sense I was very constant and I learned that I had to be respectful and show respect with clear and concise arguments. That’s when you start channeling ideas, even today,” she recalled.

Cerati, Nicole’s great teacher

One of the great lessons he received was from Gustavo Cerati. From her work with the Argentine, the singer understood that forging her sound depends on creative freedom.

“One is always in the musical search. I have spent many years making music and I have had great teachers and one of them was Gustavo Cerati which produced my third album, Sueños en transit in which I mixed the acoustic with the electronic.

“At that time I was already listening Massive Attack, Orbital y The Chemical Brothers. Gustavo he told me at that time. ‘If you want to do something different, do it. ‘Artistic growth for a musician is creative freedom’. I had several good pieces of advice from him and thanks to that I have had the opportunity to work with various musicians.

“It has given me the power to channel a sound that is interesting and that sounds fresh,” he recalled.

Their most recent LP, Claroscuro

Nicole presented her LP Claroscuro in 2022. With this she continues touring several countries, including Mexico and she considers that the mix of sounds is focused on what human beings feel in a world like the one we currently live in.

“I have never restricted myself from mixing anything and in this case my producer understood me very well.

“I named it Chiaroscuro because of what I was writing. Sometimes the names of the album come out of the songs but I began to observe all the themes and most of them talked about light and darkness on a personal and couple level. This album speaks more about the similarities that all human beings have and the differences in this polarized world. I feel like we have the same desires,” he explained.

Finally, Nicole He considers that making music is one of his passions and that growth never stops being the goal.

“I believe that having a passion is very essential and music is that. There is always something more that we aspire to and in my case it is that people listen to my music and more people discover it.

“I want to return to Mexico, share with Mexican musicians and continue growing to make another album. We are looking forward to returning in October,” she concluded.
