The Armenian opposition demands a referendum to delimit the border with Azerbaijan, Day.Az reported on Wednesday with reference to the Armenian media.

“The Armenian authorities themselves do not know when work on border demarcation will begin and which maps will be accepted as the legal basis for this. This became clear following the results of yesterday’s closed discussion in parliament in the presence of Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan. Moreover, the first desperately defended Pashinyan’s theses, but the second was more constructive, expressing readiness to participate in the next discussions on the topic,” writes the Armenian publication “Zhoghovurd.”

Let us recall that the National Assembly (Parliament) of Armenia, at the initiative of factions of opposition parties, discussed the issue of delimitation and demarcation of borders with Azerbaijan on April 9.

The discussion of this issue took place behind closed doors. Former Minister of Defense of Armenia, head of the opposition parliamentary faction “Hayastan” Seyran Ohanyan and nine other deputies of the Armenian parliament were not allowed to attend the meeting.

Let us also recall that on March 7, on the conditional border between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia, under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafayev and Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Mher Grigoryan, the seventh meeting of the State Commission on the Delimitation of the State Border between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia was held and Commission on the delimitation of the State Border and Border Security between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The parties exchanged views on delimitation issues and began agreeing on the draft Regulations on the joint activities of the State Commission on State Border Delimitation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia and the Commission on State Border Delimitation and Border Security between the Republic of Armenia and the Azerbaijan Republic, and also discussed draft relevant instructions on the procedure for carrying out delimitation work.
