Employees of the General Prosecutor’s Office and the Financial Monitoring Agency, with the assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, extradited a person from Azerbaijan to face criminal charges for the creation and leadership of an organized criminal group.

As Day.Az reported on Thursday, this was reported by the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Kazakhstan.

It was noted that in the period from 2016-2018. the suspect directly led a criminal group that was engaged in smuggling consumer goods into Kazakhstan, and also evaded paying customs duties and taxes. As a result of these activities, the Kazakh state suffered damage in excess of 4 billion tenge.

“After committing the crimes, he escaped from investigation and was put on the international wanted list.

Later, the location of the suspect was established on the territory of Azerbaijan.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan satisfied the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan for his extradition,” the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Kazakhstan said in a statement.

It was emphasized that the suspect is currently placed in a pre-trial detention center in the city of Aktau.

“For committing the crime he is charged with, punishment is provided in the form of imprisonment for a term of seven to twelve years with confiscation of property.

It is worth noting that in December 2019, the court of the Mangystau region sentenced 12 persons involved in the activities of the same organized criminal group to various types of punishment,” the press service added.
