Fruit producers expect Minister Vatev to stop unfair imports from outside
“I expect we’ll have a gorgeous one this year.” harvest from the fruits, who return by the end of June. I’m not the only orchardist who thinks so. All the colleagues I have spoken to share the same opinion,” he told Agro Plovdiv Slavi Trifonovchairman of the National Bio Association (NBA).
However, fruit growers cannot rejoice in the gift of climate and land, as two difficult problems stand against the abundance.
“Nothing compares to the labor crisis. When I created the cherry orchard 21 years ago, I told myself that what could force me to give it up would be the shortage of workers. And here he came,” continued Trifonov.
He explained that until recently they had three workers assigned to permanent employment contracts. But one day all three announced they were leaving to pick fruit in Italy for €8 an hour with free food and bed. “I couldn’t stop them,” Slavi Trifonov regrets to this day.
The other problem, in case the first one is somehow solved, will be the market.
“I plan to write to Minister Kiril Vatev that we expect an excellent harvest and we hope that he will do everything in his power to limit imports,” the NBA chairman also said.
