A new burger shop in Dortmund promises “flavor explosions”. For some it is the “best burger in all of North Rhine-Westphalia”, for others it is just “a joke”.

Dortmund – A highly sought-after food trend from the USA is making burger fans’ mouths water. While people in Berlin have been queuing up at the burger chain “Goldie’s” for a long time to try the special burger, the so-called “smash burger chain” from the Ruhr area “Yaja’s” has also made it to Dortmund, reports RUHR24.

Smash burgers are a popular food trend from the land of fast food – the USA. But what makes the smash burger so different from regular burgers that it is so hyped? The Smash Burger is characterized by its special texture. Instead of carefully forming and frying a burger patty, the Smash Burger literally presses (smashes) the meat onto the hot griddle.

This creates a thinner, crispier crust on the surface while keeping the inside juicy. This clearly distinguishes the Smash Burger from traditional, thicker burger patties.

The smash burger shop of the “Yaja’s” chain is located in Dortmund on Ostenhellweg and is the successor to the Asian snack bar “Kim Phu”, which until the beginning of the year satisfied the hunger of passers-by with noodle dishes.

The food trend from the USA is causing a stir in the Ruhr area. Because so far there aren’t too many places where you can get a smash burger. The “Yaja’s” chain wants to bring the trend to the Ruhr area and has had a location in Essen since September last year.

Various homemade dips and sauces, caramelized onions and potato rolls from the USA are said to make the chain’s smash burger particularly soft and tasty.

The burger or the menu with fries and sauces are available in a box to take away and eat on the go. To-go dishes seem to be increasingly in demand, as another restaurant in Dortmund wants to offer a revolutionary pizza to hand in a few weeks.

While some would like to bathe in the cheese and think it is “the best burger in all of North Rhine-Westphalia”, you can also read a lot of negative things in the Google reviews of “Yaja’s” in Dortmund.

Visitors often criticize the size of the burger and the excessive price. “The burger tasted like a cheeseburger at McDonalds. 8 euros are a joke for the thing,” says one review. Another visitor also sees it this way: “A small bowl of frozen fries with truffle mayo costs 6.50 euros, that’s not possible.” Another snack in Dortmund, however, is very popular and has been a tradition for 175 years.

For anyone who would like to see the smash burger for themselves, the shop at Reinoldikirche is open every day from 2 p.m. On Fridays and Saturdays you can even grill and squash here until midnight.
