At its meeting today, December 21, the government decided to apply a temporary (6-month) ban on the transportation of a number of goods from Armenia to EAEU countries and export to third countries.

We are talking about the ban on the export of scrap and waste of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, as well as some used goods made of ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

Such a ban has been in effect since 2022, after which the volume of local production of metal has increased significantly, in particular, according to the RA Statistical Committee, in 2021, the volume of production of steel ingots alone amounted to more than 115.2 thousand. tons, which increased 8.4 times compared to 2020, and in 2022 that product was more than 119.6 thousand. tons, which is 3.9% more than in 2021, and the production volumes of steel pipes, hollow frames and their fittings in 2023 in the first half of the year, it increased by about 56%, making 52.2 thousand. t.

2023 In January-August, the production volumes of steel pipes, hollow tubes and their fittings increased by about 58%, making 52.2 thousand. t., and the production of construction reinforcements – by 17.2%, making 68.2 thousand. t.

As a result of the measures taken by the government, investments were made in the metallurgical industry (including foreign ones) in 2022-2023.
