The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development announced that development aid provided by the organization’s countries jumped to its highest level ever to $223.7 billion in 2023 from $185.5 billion in 2022.

In a report, the organization attributed this increase to the development aid provided by the organization’s countries to Ukraine in light of the harsh war it is waging with its neighbor, Russia.

She said that the United States, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom and France remain the largest donor countries.

The report stated that in 2022, development aid to OIC countries also recorded a record high, reaching 185.5 billion euros, and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development also recorded an increase in humanitarian aid.

The report also stated that the countries that responded last year to the United Nations goal of allocating 0.7 percent of the gross national product to development aid, and sometimes exceeded it, were Norway (1.09 percent), Luxembourg (0.99 percent), Sweden (0.91 percent), Germany (0.79 percent), and Denmark (0.74 percent). ) Gross national income.

However, the report indicated that most countries did not reach the United Nations goal, and that out of a total of 31 member countries of the organization’s aid committee, only 14 countries were able to increase the volume of their development aid in 2023, while this aid decreased in 17 countries, including Austria (-4.1 percent). .

The report pointed out that this is due to the decline in the costs of caring for refugees in the countries receiving them, including Austria.
