Retro is fashionable. And in technology too. Brands know this perfectly, which is why many have been launching updated versions of some of their most memorable machines. It happened a few years ago with mini consoles, a trend that Nintendo jumped on first, followed by PlayStation and, later, Sega. And then many more. Now it was the turn of mobile phones and the protagonist had to be Nokia. The firm that put the first wireless phone of their lives in the hands of many users.

The brand, now owned by HMD, has announced that it is going to once again manufacture three of its most memorable mobile models. Namely: the 6310he 5310 and the 230. And they will come out this year. And they are all very cheap.

The new mobile phones have a design very similar to the originals, which were released between 2001 and 2015, and are capable of doing practically the same thing as then. Don’t ask them to be an iPhone 15, because they’re not even close. And it doesn’t even need to be done.

6310

The 6310 is not designed for you to spend hours with your eyes glued to the screen. At least, unless you get too caught up in playing the snake, which, as it could not be otherwise, is pre-installed in the terminal. With this in your hand, you can make calls, send SMS, listen to the radio and little else.

And it’s okay because it doesn’t have WhatsApp or Instagram, because, if it’s important, the contact on duty will call you, or, at least, that’s what the manufacturer points out: “We had fewer applications in the nineties. Fewer channels to be present on. But were we less in touch? Remove current notifications for likes, shares, and comments, and what’s left will be conversations with the people you care about most.

The terminal is a carbon copy at the design level. Screen less than 3 inches, physical keyboard and, this is new, a small camera on the back. About 0.3 MP. Very, very fair. The price? 59.99 euros. Official release date pending at the moment.

5310

The 5310 is a more modern mobile. It was originally launched in 2007, so the new model incorporates MP3 and special buttons for music control. Plus, it supports SD cards so you can fill it with songs. It also has two “powerful” speakers.

The mobile phone’s battery is long-lasting and, according to Nokia, is prepared to “last for weeks.” As for internet connection, it is compatible with 2G networks. It also adds a camera on the back that, again, will not be able to take great photos. As was the case with 6310, it is a terminal designed to be used exactly the same as it was when the original model was launched: 2007. And then everything involved calls, SMS and, indeed, MP3 music. The price is 52.90 euros.

230

The 230 is a more current Nokia. It was launched in 2015. The new version has, in addition to a rear camera, a sensor on the front to take ‘selfies’. Both are 2MP and have an LED flash. In addition, the terminal has a button to activate the front camera.
