Italian designer Roberto Cavalli died at his home in Florence at the age of 83 after a long illness, the media reported. Until the last, his companion in life during the past 15 years was the Swedish Sandra Bergman Nilsson. Cavalli leaves behind six children, the youngest being his son Giorgio, who was born on March 8, 2023.

Roberto Cavalli started working in fashion in the 1970s. He creates his own brand, which is immediately distinguished by its special handwriting and prints on the fashion catwalks. The stylist uses a lot of embroidery and leather in his clothes. Cavali sold his brand in 2015 when he retired from active fashion.

One cannot help but remember the long and transparent dresses, the generous necklines that characterized many of his creations. In 1998, he also launched the Just Cavalli youth line. Two years later, he also created a line for the home – Roberto Cavalli Home.

The designer was born on November 15, 1940 in Florence. His grandfather is a famous artist whose works are exhibited in the Uffizi Gallery. His father Giorgio was shot by the German units near Arezzo in 1944. That is why the stylist named his last child after him.

Roberto Cavalli studied at the State Institute of Art in Florence and specialized in textile applications in painting. In the 1970s, he patented his method of printing on leather, and began to create a patchwork of fabrics and colors. The first fashion houses interested in his techniques were “Hermès” and “Pierre Cardin”.

Cavali shows on the catwalk the jeans he created in printed fabric, on which there are leather inlays, brocade and animal print.

Cavalli’s first marriage to Silvana was short-lived and at the age of 29 he separated from her. They have two children – Tommaso and Christiana. Then he married Eva Maria Duringer, former number 2 of Miss World. He has three children with her. Eva also became his main collaborator and partner in fashion.

After creating the Just Cavalli line, the designer also includes accessories, sunglasses, watches, perfumes, underwear and swimwear.

In 2002, the first boutique-cafe with the name of his brand was born in Florence. Similar ones can be found in other cities.
