/ The British Royal Navy announced, on Monday, the confiscation of 200 kg of cocaine and drugs worth about 17 million pounds sterling in the Caribbean Sea.
It was reported that the ship “HMS Trent” confiscated 200 kg of cocaine and other drugs with an estimated value of 16.7 million pounds sterling, according to British media.
Defense Secretary Grant Shapps praised the Navy’s work, saying it demonstrated the Navy’s commitment to “disrupting and dismantling” drug traffickers.
British sailors, Royal Marines and a US Coast Guard team aboard the HMS Trent intercepted a smuggling speedboat immediately after it visited the port of Martinique, according to the Ministry of Defense.
She added that the warship launched speedboats commanded by 47 Royal Marine commandos to intercept the speedboat, confiscate the drugs, and detain the crew before dark.
The Ministry of Defense said that less than 48 hours later, HMS Trent worked with a US Coast Guard patrol plane to track and intercept another speedboat.
