ELTA reminds that on March 4, a 32-year-old woman with a three-month-old girl was found missing from the air by a border police helicopter in the Girulii forest, approximately 11 kilometers from Pilaitė. They were searched for around the clock.
Later, the defenders of the child’s rights appealed to the United Kingdom’s authority responsible for the protection of the child’s rights, asking for help in finding the child’s father and to provide information on whether services were provided to the family.
The family used to live abroad.
“Social partners of child rights defenders provide all the necessary assistance to the child and mother. The child is currently safe and custody has been assigned to someone related to the child.
Defenders of the child’s rights managed to contact the child’s father in the United Kingdom, but he did not express his desire to communicate with the child”, the representative of the State Child Rights Protection and Adoption Service, Ieva Daukšienė, wrote in the reply to Elta.
In Vilnius, a young woman with a three-month-old baby who left her home in the Pilaitė district and went missing was not only searched for by the helicopter of the border guards – the police used service dogs and thermal imagers, firefighters and rescuers were also used in the search, they searched water bodies.
A woman with a child had disappeared before, but then they managed to find her quickly.
Defenders of the child’s rights say that it is important to know that mothers who have given birth to a child are often extremely vulnerable, may face emotional difficulties or depression, so it is extremely important that the relatives nearby notice these states, help the mother, and refer them for help.
