Jēkabpils coped with this test a little better Lynx the team that overcame not only a set deficit in Daugavpils, but also a five-point difference in the deciding set to beat last year’s champion 3-2 Ezerzeme/ DU. The streak of up to three victories will continue on Saturday and Sunday, live on LTV7.

The finalists of the Latvian championship became known already at the end of last month, when Ezerzeme/DU also defeated VK 3-0 in the second semi-final Seaside/ MSG team, but Jēkabpils Lynxes beat RTU 3-1 in the decisive game of the series Border Guard/Jūrmala. True, the fight for prizes had to be postponed for several weeks, because the European U20 Championship qualification tournament was held in Daugavpils from April 5 to 7. In it, the team led by Jēkabpils club coach Mārčas Obrumans beat their peers from Slovakia, Croatia and Germany and qualified for the final tournament of this age group after a 20-year break. Under Obruman’s leadership, the boys of this year entered the elite for the second time, as they previously did it in the U17 age group.

“Before the final series, I said that I haven’t seen the team for a while. Others may have seen it as an excuse, but the preparation was not as usual,” coach Obruman did not hide that the additional duties before the final series left an impression. “We didn’t play well, but this time it was enough to win. In the final, every victory is important, and then I don’t care what kind of victory it is,” the Latvian Volleyball Federation quotes Obruman.

In a somewhat chaotic and buggy game Lynxes made the first breakthrough, however, in the next two sets, the Daugavpils volleyball players were superior, and in the third set they never let go of the lead. In the continuation, the nature of the fight changed, but in the decisive set Ezerzeme/DU did not protect its early five-point lead. “The turning points of the fifth set will perhaps increase the confidence of our players in their own strength. The experience and coolness of the team leaders showed at the decisive moment,” Obrumans pointed out that the performance of both teams should be more stable in the continuation of the series.
