The series of “Food for body and soul” t-shirts, launched by the Instituto Socioambiental (ISA) as part of the celebration of the organization’s 30th anniversary, presents examples of biodiversity that are the result of the knowledge and ways of life of indigenous peoples, quilombolas and traditional communities . The illustrations are by Catarina Bessell.

Study published by ISA showed that these people and their economies are, together, responsible for protecting one third of the forests in Brazil. Positive impact is fundamental for our times: mitigating the effects of the climate emergency.

Giving visibility to the knowledge and cultures of indigenous peoples, quilombolas and traditional communities strengthens their ways of life and their connection with the territories.

These cultures are living heritage of Brazilian culture and the relationship with nature has guaranteed, continues to guarantee and will guarantee the conservation of forests, rivers, seas and the country’s different biomes.

With this, associations are strengthened in the processes of organizing and marketing products, and become agents for articulating their cultures and defending their rights.

With socio-biodiversity economies, the future could be different. Wear that shirt!
