Gapyeong Cruise Departure Ceremony on the Bukhan River Millennium Waterway

The ‘Bukhangang River Thousand Year Waterway’ water tourist route has finally opened. It is a water tourism route that connects hidden tourist resources in waterside areas that are difficult to access by car with cruise ships and circular buses.

On the 12th, Gapyeong-gun held a departure ceremony for the Gapyeong Cruise, a thousand-year waterway on the Bukhan River, at the Gapyeong Marina dock in Seorak-myeon and the Bukhan River area with about 80 people in attendance, including County Mayor Seo Tae-won, the county council chairman, provincial and county council members, heads of institutions, and organizations related to the agreement.

On this day, attendees boarded the Gapyeong Cruise, chatted, and toured the natural tourist attractions scattered along the Bukhangang River.

At this event, County Governor Seo said, “The first phase of the ‘Bukhan River Millennium Waterway Construction Project’, which has been promoted as a five-year plan through agreements with Nami Island, Cheongpyeong Ferry, and HJ Leisure Development since July 2020, has finally begun,” adding, “ “It will be an opportunity to take a leap forward to become Gapyeong, the No. 1 water tourism destination, by connecting the scattered natural tourist attractions through a new route called the water transportation network,” he said.

Gapyeong Cruise, which departed on this day, recently began its first full-fledged operation after HJ Cruises (CEO: Yoo Gwang-hyeon) completed construction and business preparations. It will operate a 30km round trip between Gapyeong Marina and Nami Island twice a day, and in May, it will sail to Jaraseom Island and Cheongpyeong Lake. It will cover a 40km round-trip sea route.

After staying at the tourist attraction for about an hour, you will return to the starting point.

Previously, the military announced that the Jaranaru multi-purpose dock, which has entered the final stage after a year of construction, will be towed from the manufacturing site to the installation site at the end of this month, and the Gapyeong Cruise is scheduled to enter the port in time for the Jaraseom Spring Flower Festival on the 25th of next month.

The 436-ton electric cruise ship, which was the first in Korea to obtain preliminary certification as the first environmentally friendly ship from the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, is a three-story cruise ship with a hull length of 37.52 m, width of 12 m, and height of 13.20 m, and can accommodate up to 250 people.

By using electric batteries as a power source, there is no exhaust fumes and low noise and vibration, allowing for a comfortable trip while providing a cruise environment optimized for various cultural performances and events.

The Bukhangang River Millennium Waterway Construction Project is a public-private joint project being promoted with an investment of KRW 52.4 billion, including KRW 15 billion in military funds and KRW 37.4 billion in private capital, with the goal of completing the entire second stage in March next year. Six plazas will be established, and three eco-friendly cruise ships, including electric propulsion ships, will operate in earnest.

Reservations for Gapyeong Cruises are made by phone, and reservations will be made possible through the website in the future.
