More than 8 billion passwords hit the Internet due to the largest leak in history

by time news

A collection of 8.4 billion passwords has appeared on hacker forums, some of which, presumably, were taken from previous leaks. This is reported by the resource Cybernews.com. Considering that now there are about 4.7 billion Internet users in the world, hackers have at their disposal twice as many passwords as the Internet population.

The file is called rockyou2021.txt and refers to the famous leak of 2009 RockYou, when over 32 million passwords were leaked to the Internet. The current collection weighs over 100 GB and contains passwords ranging from six to 20 characters long. You can check if your data has leaked either on the Cybernews resource or on Have I Been Pwned ?.

This leak is the largest in history. In second place is the so-called COMB, which occurred in February 2021, when 3.2 billion passwords were leaked.
