In Baku on April 18 at 18.30 there will be a screening of the film “The Jump” (Suolis/The Jump), Trend Life reports.
The event will take place under the organization of the Lithuanian Embassy in Azerbaijan, Khazar University and Landmark Baku.
“The Jump” is a documentary film by Lithuanian director Giedre Zickite. Scriptwriters: Giedre Zickytė and Josh Alexander; cinematographer: Rimvydas Leipus. The film premiered in June 2020.
The film tells the story of Lithuanian sailor Simas Kudirka, who on November 23, 1970 jumped from a Soviet ship onto an American ship and asked for asylum in the United States. Against the backdrop of rare archival footage and dramatic reconstruction, Simas Kudirka tells this story.
It should be noted that the film was shown at a number of film festivals and received prestigious film awards, among them – the award “Best Documentary Feature Film” at the Warsaw International Film Festival (Poland); Grand Prix of the EBS International Documentary Film Festival (South Korea); Jury Prize and Audience Award at Salem Film Festival (USA); Audience Award of the International Documentary Film Festival Docville (Belgium), etc.
Giedre Zickyte is a Lithuanian documentary director and producer, co-founder of the production company MOONMAKERS. He is a member of the European Film Academy and the Lithuanian Filmmakers Union. In 2007 she received a degree in visual arts from the Vilnius Academy of Arts. Her films have been selected for numerous prestigious international film festivals and won awards.
