Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh returned home in the middle of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He was playing IPL for Delhi Capitals. The World Cup winning star had to return to the country on the call of Cricket Australia.
Australia returned him to the country due to injury. The T20 World Cup is ahead, so no one sees a reason not to worry about Australia’s Marsh. After talking to Delhi, Australia returned him to the country. Notably, Marsh will lead Australia in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Therefore, Cricket Australia has an extra eye on him.
Marsh did not play the last two matches for Delhi. He sat on the side bench for the matches against Mumbai on 7 April and Lucknow Super Giants on 12 April. He also missed today’s match against Kolkata. Marsh injured his right hamstring while playing a match against Kolkata on April 3. Since then out of the field. Delhi assistant coach Praveen Ambre told him to keep him under observation.
But Cricket Australia has always been conscious of its players. So they called Marsh to the country. There was no discussion as to whether he would be available for the rest of the season.
Cricket Australia has been using the injury-prone Marsh very carefully for the last 12 months. Marsh suffered from one injury after another throughout his career. He is now playing regularly in three formats. He won the World Cup for Australia in 2023. He also played the Ashes. He also received the Allan Border Medal for Australia’s best cricketer in 2023.
His IPL career is also not very long. Even though he signed up in the eighth season, he has managed to play only 42 matches so far. Time will tell if he will be seen again this season.
Meanwhile, there is concern about another Australian cricketer, David Warner. He injured his finger while fielding at short fine leg on Friday. His finger was scanned. Whether he will play in the next match in Delhi on April 17 is still not sure.
