German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will support economic cooperation with China, despite the United States’ desire to minimize interaction between Berlin and Beijing. This is stated in the material published in the European edition of the Politico newspaper, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

From the point of view of the publication, “Scholz needs China,” because in the current situation, when the German economy is “experiencing difficulties,” the chancellor “cannot afford to destroy business ties between Berlin and Beijing.” At the same time, Politico believes, Scholz is forced to ignore the pressure exerted on him by the United States, since “he is not ready to sacrifice prosperity [своей страны] <...> for the security interests of Washington or even the European Union.”

China, the newspaper notes, is “the pillar of German global business.” In particular, China accounts for about 50% of global car sales of one of the largest German automobile concerns, Volkswagen.

As the publication points out, the German economy is currently facing a whole range of economic problems – “from a lack of skilled labor to excessive regulation.” According to forecasts by economists and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), after a disastrous 2023, the German economy will continue to stagnate.

Earlier, the official representative of the German Cabinet of Ministers, Steffen Hebestreit, informed that Scholz was going to China on April 13, and on April 16 he would hold talks in Beijing with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier of the State Council Li Qiang.
