Tamil Nadu Lok Sabha Elections: DMK challenges Election Commission in High Court – Latest Updates and Developments

by time news

Read More The Lok Sabha elections are going to be held in seven phases. Accordingly, in the first phase, polling will be held in Tamil Nadu on April 19. The counting of votes will be held on June 4. As the political parties are already showing seriousness in the election work, the election field has started to heat up as the date of the election has been announced. At the same time Tamil Nadu political parties have announced their candidates and started campaigns.

At the same time, the Election Commission has implemented the rules of conduct of elections across the country. In that regard, the Election Commission, police and government officials are taking various actions after the Election Code of Conduct came into force. In this context, the DMK had filed a case against the functioning of the Election Commission in the Madras High Court. On behalf of DMK, party organizational secretary R. S. Bharti had filed the suit.

In the petition, it was stated, “As per the rules of the Election Commission, all parties must obtain prior approval for election related advertisements. But the Election Commission is biased in giving pre-clearance to DMK’s election advertisements. DMK’s election ads are rejected for trivial reasons. The Election Commission has refused permission to release some advertisements on behalf of DMK regarding cancellation of NEET exam, increase in petrol price and Madurai AIIMS Hospital under the title of ‘Stalin calling to save India’. Therefore, the application related to the advertisements seeking permission should be considered and given permission within 2 days.

In this case, this case came up for hearing today (15.04.2024) in the session of Chief Justice Ganga Poorwala and Justice Satyanarayana. On behalf of DMK, senior lawyer Shanmugasundaram argued, “Regulations regarding election advertisements have been ordered in August 2023. A case has been filed in the Supreme Court against these regulations,” he said. The judges who recorded this, ordered the Election Commission to respond to the matter by the 17th.
