With his parliamentary intervention, as well as specific proposals to the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy, the Dodecanese Member of Parliament raises the issue of upgrading the Kalymnos Diving School.

He emphasizes that the Kalymnos Diving School, apart from the fact that it is connected to the special characteristics and history of the island, is the only public diving school in Greece and its upgrade will turn it into a pole of attraction for students, as well as a point of reference for the maritime training in the wider Mediterranean region, giving the island extra value.

Mr. Konsola’s 6 proposals include:

– Ensuring funding for the operation of the Diver School through the Public Investment Program, in collaboration with the Ministry of Shipping and the Ministry of Finance.

– Two years of study at the School to obtain a degree and certification, as is also done in IEK, instead of 40 working days, as is the case today.

– Each academic year should include 7 months of theoretical-practical training and 4 months of practical training in submarines, sponges, shellfish farming, technical work, pipelines, underground cable laying, port establishment, biological cleaning, mining rigs

oil, wreck recovery.

– Changing and improving the level of the curriculum. The educational program must include courses related to Geology, Archaeology, Foreign Languages as well as Environmental Protection and dealing with pollution incidents.

– Liaison of the Kalymnos Diver School with the International Marine Contractors Association, which represents the vast majority of contractors and suppliers in the offshore marine construction industry worldwide, thus ensuring employment conditions for its graduates.

– Providing the possibility of continuing education to the graduates of the Diver School, in order to be able to continue their studies or specialize in corresponding schools abroad.
