In an interview with the Chinese public television channel CGTN, Mr. El Ansari highlighted the “important” economic relations between the two countries, stressing that Morocco is working to further strengthen favorable conditions for foreign investments, including those from China.
In this sense, he recalled that Morocco offers access to a market estimated at around 2.4 billion consumers thanks to free trade agreements signed with several countries in different regions.
The Kingdom therefore presents significant commercial potential for Chinese companies, whether within the country or with Morocco’s partners on the African continent and in North America, added the Moroccan diplomat.
Trade between Morocco and China increased by more than 50% in 2022 to reach a global volume of $7.6 billion, placing the Asian giant as the Kingdom’s third largest trading partner and its main partner in Asia. .
Chinese investments in Morocco which capitalized, in 2022, an amount of more than 56 million dollars, mainly relate to the sectors of industry, major works, transport, real estate, energy and mines, with a share of 52% for industry.
On this note, the Moroccan ambassador was keen to emphasize that the volume of Chinese investments in Morocco remains below the potential of the two countries, while expressing Morocco’s openness to welcoming more Chinese investments.
