This is a number more than three times higher than in 2020, when the number reached just over 20 thousand registrations. More than 417 thousand young people issued their first voter registration card until February, according to the court, in February and March of this year, the numbers reached 116,430 registrations. In 2020, in the same period, young people issued around 46,144 titles. Voting is optional for minors under 18 and, even though 15-year-olds can issue the title, only those who have turned 16 can vote. According to the Electoral Court, there are 1,383,988 young people between 16 and 17 years old eligible to vote today. The elections take place on October 6th and, if there is a second round, it will be on the 27th. In the last municipal election, the number of voters in this age group was 1,030,563. Young Voter Week included the participation of artists, influencers and athletes who encouraged young people to cast their first vote, as well as campaigns carried out by the Court that encouraged their first vote.
