  • On April 15th the Böögg will be burned again as part of the Sechseläuten. The little brother, the “Pocket-Böögg”, is now also available for private parties.

  • The small Böögge were created by a ZHdK student and are built in the protected workshop of the RgZ Foundation.

  • Karin Baumann from the RgZ Foundation promises: “The ‘Pocket-Böögg’ can do everything its big brother can do.”

On Monday evening at 6 p.m. the Böögg will be blown up again on Zurich’s Sechseläutenplatz. It is said that the faster your head explodes, the better the prospects are for sun-seekers. Because summer is supposed to be particularly beautiful when the giant snowman dies quickly.

For some time now, impatient Zurich residents – or those who cannot be there live at Bellevue – have had the chance to make their very own Böögg explode. The Pocket-Böögg has been enjoying increasing popularity in the Limmat city for some time and has already caused a smile in some private circles.

The little stunner was created in a collaboration between a student at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) and the RgZ Foundation, as Karin Baumann from the RgZ Foundation told. Since 2017, the Pocket-Böögg has been manufactured in the foundation’s protected workshop. Particular attention is paid to the details: “The little brother can do everything the big brother can do.”

20 minutes tells you what the weather will be like

20 minutes predicts the weather before 6 p.m. Because: the Pocket-Böögg is lit at 12 p.m. You can watch how long the original’s little brother takes until his head explodes in the live stream on 20min.ch or the 20-minute app.

“Only outdoors please”

The Pocket-Böögg is very well received by customers. “We experienced a high during the Corona times because our big brother wasn’t allowed to perform.” The little Böög is only sold in a short time window before Zurich’s Sechseläuten. Therefore, the time in between is used to constantly modify it.

Each Böögg is unique and all are equipped with a bang effect for a “real” Sechseläuten at home. On request and for special occasions, the RgZ Foundation also produces the Pocket-Böögg in a size of up to 1.70 meters. And: “All Bööggen can only be lit outdoors.”

The Pocket-Böögg served some as a replacement for the right one during the Corona times.

Chat for the Bööggbauers

The Pocket-Böögg is not just a joy for customers. “It’s also a chat for the Bööggbauers of the RgZ Foundation,” says Baumann. The highlight for many comes from Sechseläuten itself: “When they see the large version of their products, they can identify with it and are very happy.”

The RgZ Foundation supports, teaches, cares for and employs people with disabilities from birth to old age. It offers people with disabilities a home in its dormitory and assisted living options. It employs people who receive a disability pension in protected workplaces or employment positions.
