This is a topic that has never been discussed before and we have never been asked to prepare for it. This was said by a source inside the Stade de France consortium, which will hand over the keys to the facilities on June 1 in Paris 2024.
The possibility of moving the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris to the Stade de France is extremely small. This was reported by the French publication Le Parisien, citing a source from the consortium that owns the facility.
Earlier today, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that the gala event may be moved from the banks of the Seine at the stadium due to concerns for the safety of athletes and spectators.
Macron’s words came as a surprise even to the people of the organizing committee of the Games, with one of them even saying that so far no scenario has been worked out in which the opening ceremony will be held at the stadium located in Saint-Denis and defined the president’s statement as a “hypothesis”.
The curious detail is that the Stade de France is scheduled to host the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics, raising questions as to why this cannot also happen with the opening ceremony on July 26.
In the first place, the reasons for this not happening are purely logistical, as the facility is due to host matches from the men’s and women’s Rugby 7s tournament between July 24 and 30, and the athletics competitions also begin on August 1.
In view of all these events, at the moment it seems impossible for the “Stade de France” to host the opening ceremony, and this was signaled already in January by the interdepartmental delegate of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, Michel Cadeau, in a statement before the Senate, reports BNT.
“There are already events planned at the Stade de France, so it is not possible to imagine something like this. We are not aware, but the technical studies for moving the ceremony, preparing the transition to the athletics events, logistical activities, ensuring security… Kado commented then.
