The ORF journalist Susanne Newrkla has died after a long, serious illness, as the ORF editorial board announced on Saturday. She was 55 years old. Newrkla has been responsible for foreign reporting, especially in radio journals, for decades Ö1, Ö3, FM4 and the ORF-Regional radios helped shape it. “She was a pillar of the editorial team, including as a correspondent for the ORF in Washington,” the committee praised the colleague.

The editorial board also writes: “She was a positive person, never cynical or detached, and she believed in the good with all her might. She charmed her colleagues with her laughter and unwavering optimism. She was considered the soul of radio foreign policy; until the very end she cared about other people’s problems and listened. We miss her.”
