In the draft energy strategy, an undisputed priority is ensuring energy security in the context of decarbonization goals with the ultimate goal of achieving, in the long term, secure supplies at affordable prices for all consumers. This was said by the acting Deputy Minister of Energy Iva Petrova during the Forum “Sustainable and efficient energy system for a stable and secure economy”, which is being held today in Sofia.

Regarding energy production, the draft strategy envisages the continued introduction of renewable energy sources (RES) combined with new flexible low-carbon capacities. The priority of the strategy clearly focuses on renewable energy sources – from the sun and wind, but also on hydropower resources, Petrova pointed out. The participation of biomass and geothermal energy is also planned. In a longer-term perspective, the introduction of new PAVEC and nuclear capacities is foreseen.

In terms of consumption, energy efficiency and the active participation of consumers in the energy market are placed in the first place. There is also an emphasis on sustainable energy communities, added the Acting Deputy Minister of Energy. The strategy also allocates space to the necessary investments and development of the network, both in terms of capacity increase and their digitalization, writes BTA.

A specific focus in the energy strategy is the need to develop the national scientific engineering capacity in innovation, scientific research and education, emphasized Iva Petrova.
