BP, as the operator of the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) project, today, April 16, announced the start of oil production from the new Azeri Central East (ACE) platform as part of the development of the ACG field block in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, reports Tuesday Day.Az.

The BP statement noted that the first oil was obtained from that first well, which had been drilling since the end of last year and which reached 3,150 meters.

“ACE production is expected to be approximately 24,000 bpd in 2024 as two more planned wells are drilled, completed and brought online,” bp said.

The company recalls that ACE is the seventh oil production platform on the giant ACG block in the Caspian Sea, from which more than 4.3 billion barrels of oil have been produced since 1997 to date.

This production platform and associated facilities are designed to produce up to 100,000 barrels of oil per day at its peak, when all 48 ACE wells are brought online.

“Over the life of ACE, up to 300 million barrels of oil are expected to be produced from this part of the ACG,” bp emphasizes.

The oil passes through processing facilities on the platform and is then exported via an infield pipeline of approximately 130 kilometers to the Sangachal onshore terminal and then to the existing oil export pipeline.

The ACE platform, according to bp, is one of the most advanced platforms in the world from a technological and digital point of view.

“Its innovative operation allows for the automation of labor-intensive processes, ensuring safer and more efficient operation. The platform is equipped with a modern, fully automated drilling rig. The use of modern technologies and new processes helps, in particular, to reduce operational emissions,” the press release noted.

Gary Jones, regional president of bp in Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, in connection with today’s event, emphasized: “This successful production of first oil (well launch) is evidence of the ongoing close cooperation between bp, SOCAR and the government of Azerbaijan, the support of our partners. Obtaining first oil with ACE on the thirtieth anniversary of the ACG development agreement marks the beginning of the next phase of development of this world-class field.”

The ACE project is valued at $6 billion. ACE is a 48-slot production, drilling and well production platform located midway between the existing Central Azeri and East Azeri platforms in a sea depth of 137 meters.

ACG participants are: bp (30.37%), SOCAR (25.0%), MOL (9.57%), INPEX (9.31%), Equinor (7.27%), ExxonMobil (6.79% ), TPAO (5.73%), ITOCHU (3.65%), ONGCVidesh (2.31%).

“ACE oil means continued production at ACG for decades to come, this block of fields is a world-class hydrocarbon reservoir,” BP emphasizes.
