German Chancellor Olaf Scholz was surprised by a question about the prevalence of marijuana and drugs in his country.
Bild reports this.
Olaf Scholz is currently in China as part of his visit. During his stay in Shanghai, he held a meeting with students from Tongji University.
One of the young people expressed concern that drugs might be widespread in Berlin, where he plans to go to study. The student mentioned the recently passed law legalizing marijuana in Germany.
It is known that drug use is strictly prohibited in China. He asked what he should do if he “absolutely does not want to try cannabis and does not want to put his health at risk.”
According to the journalist, this question surprised the chancellor.
“Just don’t smoke,” Scholz replied.
He also noted that he himself is almost 66 years old and has “never tried marijuana.”
“If you study in Berlin, you can be there all the time and never run into someone doing something like that,” said the chancellor, who himself lives in Potsdam.
These comments about Berlin’s nightlife caused suppressed laughter among the German delegation, the journalist reports. She said Scholz tried to dispel the idea that the new law would force everyone in Germany to use marijuana. The politician is confident that the new rules should reduce cannabis consumption, not increase it.
Previously, we wrote about how German politicians and ministers reacted to the night shelling of Israel carried out by Iran. In particular, Scholz said that the attack was “unjustified and very irresponsible. Iran risks further escalation in the region.”
Kursor also reported that the Bundestag made scandalous statements about Iran’s attack on Israel.
