Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Israeli leadership are solely responsible for the recent escalation of tensions in the Middle East, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday, Reuters reported.
“Israel is trying to provoke a regional conflict and its attack on the Iranian embassy in Damascus was the last straw,” Erdogan told a news conference in Ankara after a meeting of the Turkish cabinet.
He added that new regional conflicts were possible as “brutality and genocide” in Gaza continued. Erdogan called on all countries to act wisely.
The Turkish president also criticized the West for condemning Iran’s attack on Israel, but not Israel’s strike on the Iranian embassy, BTA writes.
Iran attacked Israel with hundreds of explosive drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles fired Saturday night, to which Israeli officials vowed to respond.
Iran called the attack retaliation for an Israeli strike that collapsed a building at its embassy compound in Damascus on April 1 and killed two of its generals and other Iranian military personnel.
