A baby who lives with her mother in the province of Las Tunas urgently needs to undergo an operation in Havana, but without the resources to travel and stay, at least for a while, in the capital.
This is the little daughter of Yailenis Peña, who was born with deafness and periventricular atrophy, accompanied by non-active compensatory hydrocephalus, who requires an extremely important operation for her health.
The family, which is currently going through serious economic difficulties, to make matters worse, lost its home and is living in precarious conditions.
“I come to introduce you to Yailenis Peña, mother of a little girl who was born deaf, and with periventricular atrophy with non-active compensatory hydrocephalus”shared Internet user Tufi TA on Facebook.
In addition to surgery, the baby needs a cochlear implant, a device that is not available in Cuba and could take years to arrive.
“If anyone thinks they can help with any information on how to get it or some way to get it to them, they would be very grateful.”the message continues.
Prompt installation of the implant is crucial for the girl’s speech development and healthy growth.

The situation is aggravated by the shortage of certain essential vitamins that are not available on the island, like many other medications.
It is expected that, in the coming days, the little girl will be able to move with her mother to Havana and, in this way, have the opportunity to embark on the path towards a healthy life.
On the other hand, it should be noted that these cases make it clear that not even children, who are not aware of all the terror that their parents suffer, are saved from an overwhelming misery that hits with increasing force.
