Morocco, a founding member of this Organization which was created around thirty years ago in Marrakech, contributes, within this body, to strengthening the transparency of trade and works to achieve fair and equitable trade and achieve equal opportunities between countries, particularly in terms of trade, indicated Mr. Mezzour in a statement to MAP on the sidelines of the 13th WTO Ministerial Conference.
During this Conference, the Kingdom will present, on the basis of its orientation and thanks to the vision of HM the King, proposals relating to environmental protection as well as a new approach to the management of the Organization, underlined the minister, noting that Morocco works effectively within the African and Arab groups.
The WTO is experiencing developments which are not without negative effects on a number of countries, including those in development and those least developed, particularly in terms of high prices and the inclinations of protectionist policies adopted by several producing countries, he said. -he observes, calling to work for solutions likely to mitigate the effects of these policies, through the exploration of new ways to manage trade relations between countries suffering from exclusionary policies.
In this regard, the minister noted certain attempts to reduce aid intended to improve their food security, which could have, he estimated, negative effects, particularly on food importing countries.
He assured that Morocco, acting in particular within groups of developing countries and importers of food products, adopts a position in favor of maintaining this aid.
Furthermore, Mr. Mezzour emphasized the need to fight against overfishing, given its negative effects on fishery resources, but while working to preserve the means of subsistence of small fishermen.
The 13th WTO Ministerial Conference, which will continue until February 29, discusses the rules and regulatory laws governing international trade activities, as well as ways of cooperation to achieve a trading system more competent, more sustainable and more global.
The conference also examines ways to reshape the future of global trade and improve access of developing and least developed countries to the global trading system, aspects of intellectual property rights, as well as the mechanism of settlement of disputes within the WTO.
