Rumors of kidnapping and rape, the Cameroonian community in turmoil
At the origin of these tensions: allegations of kidnapping and rape of a young Congolese woman by two individuals believed to be of Cameroonian nationality. The suspects also reportedly demanded a ransom of 2.5 million CFA francs to free their victim.
Serious accusations, which quickly inflamed tempers and gave rise to calls for vindictiveness against the Cameroonian community as a whole. According to our sources, several shops run by Cameroonians were vandalized and looted in retaliation.
