When the historic building of the Danish Stock Exchange caught fire on Tuesday, the services that arrived at the scene had to create several rescue plans at the same time. It was possible to get people outside quickly, but in the 17th century. “Borsen” is a special building that has housed many valuable works of art over the years.

Videos also appeared on social networks, in which firefighters and volunteers who suddenly joined them rushed to save works of art of particular importance to Denmark.

Danish Culture Minister Jakob Engel-Schmidt immediately announced that 400 years of Danish cultural heritage were being destroyed in the flames.

The Danish publication Politiken reported that it recorded art fans running into the building to save the most important works of art that were there.

“It seems that ordinary people are running to save the paintings,” TV2 channel also announced.

Among the most iconic works of art in the building built in 1625 was a huge 4-meter-wide painting painted by PEder Sverin Kroyer in 1895. Photos posted on social media show people taking him outside. The painting appears intact.

It seems that the 1857 charcoal drawing by Lorenzo Frolich, which is of particular importance to Denmark, was also saved.

About 120 people are reported to have battled the blaze during the huge fire. On Tuesday, it was not possible to control the entire fire – work continued on Wednesday night as well.

During the fire, the roof partially collapsed, the fire reached several floors.

One of the most painful moments during the fire was the destruction of the 56-meter spire. The latter was created from the seemingly intertwined tails of four dragons.

The dragons on the roof were a symbol protecting the stock exchange from enemies and fire.

Spilis also had three crowns that symbolized the kingdoms of Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

Danish Deputy Prime Minister Treols Lund Poulsen, trying to explain what this fire means to the country, compared it to the legendary Notre Dame Cathedral fire in Paris in 2019, which destroyed one of the most prominent buildings in the world.

Despite the great pain, it is announced that a number of important works of art have been saved.

Kasper Nielsen, the representative of Bruun Rasmussen auction, openly told the local media that if the entire building of the exchange burned down, the losses would amount to millions, and the damage done to Danish culture could not even be calculated.
