Samsung has regained its position at the top of mobile phone sales in the world after the sales of its competitor, Apple, declined sharply, according to data reported by The Guardian newspaper.

For 12 years ending in 2023, the South Korean company was the largest seller of mobile phones before Apple surpassed it when it launched the latest version of its iPhone 15 series.

Global smartphone sales rose 8 percent to 289.4 million units during the period from January to March, according to research firm IDC.

“Samsung” won a market share of 20.8 percent, surpassing “Apple’s” share of 17.3 percent, which was affected by the slowdown in sales in China, according to the Guardian.

Samsung, which launched its latest lineup of smartphones, the Galaxy S24 series, at the beginning of the year, shipped more than 60 million phones during the same period.

IDC said that the American company Apple shipped 50.1 million iPhones in the first quarter of 2024, a decrease from the 55.4 million pieces it shipped in the same period last year.

Bloomberg, the American financial and business agency, described these sales as “worse than expected.”

This was the largest decline in iPhone sales since Covid-19 lockdowns caused global supply chain disruptions in 2022.

The decline in Apple’s sales is partly due to difficulties in China, where local competitors, including Xiaomi and Huawei, have put pressure on Apple and Samsung.

At the same time, the Chinese government has moved to ban devices made by foreign companies in official workplaces.
