Through social networks, a mother asked for help for her daughter Ahittana, who has been in a state of unconsciousness for several days, fighting a serious medical condition in Pinar del Río.

The little girl, a patient at the local pediatric hospital, suffers from West Syndrome and has been fighting attacks of seizures and spasms relentlessly.

“Here I have Ahittana again with seizures and spasms. She is well decompensated, today she made it the fourth day that she does not wake up”, the mother shared in a post on Facebook.

The situation worsens due to the need to increase the dose of medications, which has not prevented the seizures from continuing even while the girl is sleeping.

The medical team at that institution in Pinar del Río decided to add a new anticonvulsant drug, Topiramate, in the hope of stabilizing his condition.

“The neurologist decided to increase another anticonvulsant medication, to see if it can be controlled now, since this West syndrome has not been able to be controlled in these long months that we are in the intensive services of the pediatric hospital,” Perez explained.

However, Topiramate is not available in pharmacies on the island, which has led the family to desperately search for it. “This medicine does not exist in pharmacies in our country, and unfortunately my daughter needs it urgently”pointed out the worried mother.
