The national tennis player Fernanda Britoformerly 274° of the ranking WTAhas been sanctioned by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) in the framework of an investigation for corruption in parties.
Through a statement, the supervisory body detailed that it fined and punished the Chilean for not cooperating in a Tennis Anti-Corruption Program case.
For this reason, Brito received a fine of 10,000 dollars (almost 9 million pesos) and was suspended for six months.
“We confirm that the Chilean tennis player Fernanda Brito has been suspended for a period of six months and fined $10,000 for not cooperating with an investigation within the framework of the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP),” they indicated from ITIA.
“Brito was interviewed by the ITIA in 2023, but failed to comply with multiple requests for follow-up information related to an active investigation.”they added.
The entity also detailed that the sanction against the national tennis player began on April 5 and ends on October 4, 2024.
“During the period of ineligibility, the athlete is prohibited from playing, training or attending any tennis event authorized or sanctioned by the members of the ITIA or any national association,” they concluded from the International Agency.
It is worth mentioning that Brito, 32 years old, developed his career mainly in Futuro and The WTA registers its last professional match at the IFT in Guatemala 2021.
