BOLZANO. «While the collaborators of social services managed directly by the public sector received an inflation adjustment in 2023, this could not be paid to the collaborators of private services because the necessary funds were not available» report the associations belonging to the “Social South Tyrol” network who met the provincial councilor, Magdalena Amhofand the director of the department, Günther Burgerwith whom they discussed the liquidity problems resulting from delays in payments of European Funds and the adjustment to inflation and salary increases for the staff of non-profit organizations.
The ten organizations that have joined together in the “Alto Adige Sociale” network manage many services on behalf of the public sector and employ around 1,500 people. The “lack of inflation compensation places employees of private organizations at a disadvantage and carries the risk of demotivation, as people expect the same pay for the same work,” underlines a note.
The representatives of the group therefore requested that the provincial government provides financial subsidies to also allow organizations to grant comparable salary adjustments. Furthermore, the note adds: “if during the year salary increases were granted to employees of public bodies, for equal treatment, salary increases should also be granted to non-profit organizations in the Third Sector”.
“Social Alto Adige” then asked the councilor «to improve the methods of payment of contributions from ESF projects. In many cases, in fact, organizations receive the promised funds only two years after the closure of the project, which entails a heavy liquidity burden and high interest expenses due to the need to resort to bank loans”.
The network includes the Caritas Diocese of Bolzano-Bressanone, the Federation for Social and Health, the KVW – Katholischer Verband der Werktätigen, La Strada – Der Weg, the Lebenshilfe association, the Cooperativa Sociale EOS, the Südtiroler Kinderdorf, the family counseling center fabe, the Hands and Volontarius associations.
