The Baku International Sea Trade Port (BISCP) is of strategic importance in the global interconnectedness of Europe and Asia along the Middle Corridor, the BISCP reported following a meeting between the head of the port, Taleh Ziyadov, and the EU Special Representative for Central Asia, Terhi Hakala, Day.Az reported on Wednesday with reference to Trend .

As part of her visit to Azerbaijan, Hakala visited the BISCP in Alyat.

“The BISCP plays an important role in strengthening regional sustainable economic development and in the global connection between Europe and Asia along the Middle Corridor,” it was noted following the meeting between Ziyadov and Khakala.

BSMCP has been cooperating with the EU since 2016, implementing a number of joint projects within the framework of the “green port” initiative, on issues of digitalization and improving the efficiency of the port.

“During the meeting with Hakala, discussions were held on projects in the field of sustainable development and public-private partnerships (PPP) to ensure that the port successfully implements the ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) strategy to achieve zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2035,” – reported in the information of BMMTP.

It should be noted that the current transshipment capacity of the port is 15 million tons of cargo per year (accepting 100 thousand 20-foot containers), but work is underway to increase it to 25 million tons per year.
