/ German state security officials issued a warning that a regional branch of the extremist ISIS organization may target the UEFA Euro 2024, scheduled to be held in Germany this summer.
This comes as this week witnessed a clear threat from the terrorist organization against stadiums hosting Champions League matches throughout the “Old Continent.” All matches went on without any incident recorded.
But fears will rise again before the big European competition expected from June 14 to July 14.
According to what the German newspaper Bild reported, the new issue of a propaganda magazine affiliated with ISIS Khorasan issued a new threat, which German security officials believe is directed specifically at Euro 2024.
One of the drawings in the magazine showed an armed terrorist carrying a gun and wearing camouflage clothing, on board a German S-Bahn tram, accompanied by the phrase “Last call before exit.” On the seat next to the gunman, there is a box labeled “Explosive Materials,” along with a sign reading “Welcome to Europe.”
German officials believe that ISIS Khorasan has an organized network of more than 100 “agents” in Western Europe, including 50 in Germany alone.
One of the officials told Bild: “These propaganda images show that the organization definitely wants to carry out attacks, regardless of how and by whom they carry them out.”
“To this end, all potential attackers, including individual perpetrators described as lone wolves, are now being called upon to carry out attacks,” he added.
