“Green transition” is among the national priorities of Azerbaijan.
As Day.Az reported on Monday with reference to Trend, this was stated by the appointed president of COP29 Mukhtar Babayev in his speech during the first press conference of the COP29 chairmanship.
He mentioned that hosting COP29 in Azerbaijan is a manifestation of the international community’s confidence in the policies pursued by Azerbaijan under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev at the national and international levels, including efforts to help address climate change.
“As part of the chairmanship and holding of COP29, our country will demonstrate constant activity towards strengthening global solidarity on climate change issues,” M. Babayev emphasized.
Noting that the “green transition” is among Azerbaijan’s national priorities, M. Babayev also said that the country has joined the “Global Methane Commitment” initiative, which provides for the voluntary adoption by states of reducing methane emissions, and has set a goal of increasing the share of renewable energy sources in installed electricity capacity up to 30 percent by 2030.
