Even before the AADE digital portal was opened for the submission of this year’s tax returns, the extension of the deadline for their submission was announced.

The Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance Haris Theocharis, speaking to the competent Committee of the Parliament for the Tax Procedure Code, announced that for every day of delay in the start of submitting tax returns beyond March 31, an extension of equal days will be given.

“Given that, last year we started on March 31, let’s say roughly April 1, and we didn’t start on the same date this year, for any days we have gone in April, we will advance the deadline beyond June 30, so that in July the statements, so the days we took in April we will give them in July…”, said Haris Theoharis.

Based on the statements of the deputy minister, the deadline for submitting tax returns has already been extended until July 17, 2024 and the counter will continue to write until the declaration platform is opened.

According to AADE’s plan, the application for personal income tax returns will be opened by April 30 at the latest. Then will follow the start of the submission of tax returns for legal entities.

Given that the start of the declaration submission process is delayed, it is possible that the deadline for submitting the tax declarations will reach the end of July without, however, changing the deadline for the payment of the first installment of the tax, which expires on July 31, 2024.

According to the provisions in force “the payment of the personal income tax, tax year 2023, is made in eight equal monthly installments, of which the first is paid until July 31, 2024 and each of the following until the last working day of the following seven months. If the deadline for submitting the declaration is extended to a date later than the deadline for payment of the first installment, the first two installments are paid until the deadline for the second installment.”

Also, in the event that the personal income tax for the fiscal year 2023 is paid in one lump sum until the final date of payment of the first installment, a discount of three 3% is provided to the total amount of the tax and the debts confirmed with it.
