Young Guatemalans participate in the FIRST LEGO League 2024 Festival championship
Los students of the National Institute of Diversified Education ―INED― Ulew Kotz’i’j (Land of Flowers), are ready to make history by represent Guatemala in the FIRST Championship international competition of the FIRST Lego League World Festival 2024 in the United States. After winning the «First Lego League Challenge Guatemala», these talented young people will compete alongside teams from around the world from April 17 to 20 in Houston, Texas.
The challenge, called “Masterpiece,” motivated teams to explore the role of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) in the arts and work as a team to design a world full of creative possibilities. The students of INED of San Juan Sacatepéquez They demonstrated their ingenuity and creativity in tackling this challenge in an outstanding manner, earning them first place in the national competition.
The global competition in Houston, Texas, will bring together winning teams from participating countries to showcase their innovation projects and compete in a robot board game. During this exciting event they will have the opportunity to share their projects, exchange ideas and learn from each other, while competing in the robot challenge and being evaluated in areas such as the science project and the competition’s core values.
The achievement of the six young Guatemalans competing in the United States is a source of pride for their educational institution and for the entire country. We wish you good luck!
An international competition that promotes science
The FIRST Lego League is an international program of FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) and the LEGO Group which encourages research, creativity and problem solving among primary and secondary school students. In the national competition, teams work on projects related to real-world challenges and present their innovative solutions to a panel of judges.
The winners of the national competition
The national competition was organized by Computación Avanzada SA. The final took place on April 6 at the Inter-American School in zone 16. This year, 15 schools and 20 teams participated, the INED being Ulew Kotz’i ‘j the only participating public school. They are winners at the national level:
- First place: Institute of San Juan Sacatepéquez
- Second place: Colegio Americano del Sur
- Third location: Bressani High School
These awards were also awarded in the Guatemalan championship:
- Best innovation project: Colegio Maya
- Best Values project: Colegio Castaño
- Best robot design: Sacred Heart of Jesus School
